The Suite Bachelor
The Suite Bachelor (2024) is a six-part photographic essay created inside the Richard Neutra-designed Sten-Frenke House in Santa Monica, California. Nearly a decade after first encountering the home of a former partner in her early twenties, Shaw returned to photograph a space that had once represented intimacy, aspiration and success, only to recognise the distance and loneliness held within it. Through architecture, personal objects and traces of domestic life, the series considers the tension between appearance and experience—and the illusions we construct to accept what we know is no good for us.
